It isn’t too often that a major recording artist visits the humble little beachside village of Placencia. It is even more rare that said major artist gives an impromptu, informal, free, poolside performance, but that’s precisely what happened yesterday at The Other Side Inn. American singer/ songwriter, Big Kenny, from the country-music-duo Big & Rich delighted visitors and residents in Placencia yesterday with an acoustic concert. After the cool and casual performance, Big Kenny gifted an autographed guitar to local charity organization Placencia United & Strong. The civic group will auction the guitar as a fundraiser at a later date.

Big & Rich are kind of a BIG deal… they’ve had 15 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Charts and they’ve written or co-written loads more hits for other big-name artists as well. Many people are most familiar with their 2004 hit, Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy). Big Kenny has been on vacation with his family in Belize this past week and said they’d enjoyed some wildlife viewing and zip lining in Cayo before yesterday’s pool party in Placencia. He treated us to several original songs (including Save a Horse) as well as a cover of Steve Miller Band’s The Joker. What a treat and what a nice man! Big Kenny was so kind; he hung out around the pool, chatted with people and took pictures. Plus, he gave that guitar to Placencia United & Strong!

Here are the videos I took. I still can’t believe this country music STAR was just casually jamming for us at a pool bar in Placencia- how random! How spontaneous! How awesome!
