Have some free time and a soft spot for furry friends? Head over to the Saga Humane Society (a block from Pedro’s Hotel) and volunteer to walk a dog or two. Face it- you’d probably be meandering around town or down the beach any way; why not bring a little buddy along with you? The Humane Society on Ambergris Caye is doing a great job of keeping the island’s dogs and cats healthy and getting them adopted to forever homes.
If you’re just on vacation and can’t commit to adoption then spending a morning as a volunteer pal is the next best thing. No need to call ahead, you can just wander in to the office and let them know you’re intentions- you’ll have no shortage of sweet pups clamoring for your attention. They’ll provide you with leashes and poop bags and you’re good to go. We headed across the street for a romp on the beach and everyone had a good time. This is an activity that doesn’t cost you anything (though of course donations are always needed and appreciated) and really makes a dog’s day.
So well behaved…
And this one, not so much…
A quick rest in the shade before continuing down the beach.
This guy got a little tired in the hot sun and needed to be carried.
Look at the smile on this little guy’s face!
