We made our own Mistletoe Ball last month. Our friends, as I’m sure many people are, were missing Mistletoe Ball (again) this year. We haven’t had any special events in nearly two years, since the pandemic began. It was difficult to get in to the holiday spirit and everyone was itching for an excuse to get dressed up. When you wear flip flops and tank tops every-darn-day you sometimes just want a reason to put on heels. So, we decided to make our own merriment and go for a special dinner in Hopkins at the beachside restaurant, Chef Rob’s.
We car pooled in Barefoot Services’ beautiful big van. How convenient is it to have a friend that’s a tour guide!? Barefoot has an assortment of vehicles for rent but this particular, luxury 13 passenger behemoth is only available with a driver- so if you have a large group and want to go somewhere in comfort and style, hire Ian to chauffer you for the day! We stopped at Merry Isthmus for a quick photo of us all dressed up.

I think Phil and I were the only ones in the group that hadn’t been to Chef Rob’s before. I’m not the most adventurous eater, nor am I well versed in fancy gourmet dining, so I was a bit apprehensive about the unusual menu. I specifically raised an eyebrow over the Wahoo Mousse because the idea of whipped fish sounds repulsive but I ended up actually liking it! I also had a delicious Buffalo striploin steak that I would go back to order again and again. Microgreens garnished every course except dessert; Nina loved them and ate everyone’s leftovers.
What a fun evening to share great food with great friends. I hope next year’s Christmas celebration has an equally nice dinner but I hope we can follow that dinner up with dancing. If you’re in the Hopkins area and looking for a special meal (with ample microgreens) then look no further than Chef Rob’s.

If it’s on my plate it should be edible, and I love leftovers, every time!
