If you’re a frequent reader then you’ll already know that I often bother Noel, the lovely young man at Clive’s veggie stand, with stupid questions about the fruits and veg that I’m unfamiliar with. What is it? What’s it taste like? How do I eat it? How do I prepare it? He is so kind and helpful with his answers and will pick me out a ripe **whatever** we happen to be trying that day.
This week I tried a Custard Apple. I didn’t have high expectations for this; I mean, look at it! It doesn’t even look good. Noel selected me one that was ready to be eaten so I took it home and tried it. Bleh. Not my favorite. Kinda reminds me of soursop with the flesh around hard black seeds you have to spit out. The texture was off-putting. Parts were creamy but in a tongue coating way not a luscious feel. Other parts were granular sort of like a pear. The taste was sweet, similar to the mami or sapodilla I wrote about here.

I probably won’t be flocking back to Clive’s for more custard apples but they’re not the worst thing I’ve ever tasted. Do you like them? Do you eat it with condensed milk like ice-cream? Let me know in the comments.
