So close and so simple to reach from the Placencia Peninsula. Maya King Waterfall is the easy choice for an accessible adventure the whole family will enjoy. Crisp, cold, and clean; this waterfall provides a refreshing place to swim as well as ample parking, toilets and changing rooms, picnic tables, and a huge covered seating area.
Mere minutes from the junction at the top of the Peninsula, on the Southern Highway, is Mayan Adventure World. Just look for the obviously fake but frequently photographed “temple” at the entrance. The private park encompasses acres of citrus fields and offers horseback riding, river tubing, a 7-run zipline course, and the waterfall. (click here for past post on the zipline and tubing)

Entry for the waterfall is $10usd per person (no local discount) and you can drive all the way up to the base of the falls. There are 3 natural pools and cascades that visitors can reach via a series of stone and cement steps. Hand rails are along most of the path/ steps and proper ladders can be used to get in or out of the deeper pools. Belize has so many beautiful waterfalls but none are as easy to access as this one.

The top pool has a low platform to jump from or you could climb the rocks up the side of the fall. If you stand in the water still enough then tiny fish may come give you a free pedicure by nibbling the dead skin from your feet.

Is this the best waterfall in Belize? No. (much more impressive falls I’d recommend are this one in the Vaca Reservoir, Dreaming Giant’s 5 Falls, Big Rock in Mountain Pine Ridge, Big Drop in Bocawina) But is it the closest and easiest to reach from Placencia? Yes!
