I love a first look and my friend Gillian, co-founder of the preeminent beach bar in Placencia- Tipsy Tuna, knows just that, so on Thursday night she invited me over to take a gander at the newly renovated, indoors lounge at Tipsy. It is open now and you’ll be stunned by the transformation!
Gone are the sand floor and pool tables. The ‘aquarium’ dance and DJ enclosure, gone also. What has replaced it is a sleek and clean bistro style lounge. It’s spacious and bright and clean. I’d be as comfortable here hanging out watching football as I would hosting a private event like a special birthday party or baby shower. The décor is perfect- a mix of sports memorabilia and local artwork. There’s a distinct nautical theme with authentic portholes that I covet and the wheel and propeller from Gillian’s grandfather’s ship.

The Lounge also has draft beer. If you’re familiar with beer in Belize you’ll know it is a rarity to find beer on tap; the vast majority of bars only have bottles so I find it a bit exciting to discover one with draft. A treat! And it’s not just any beer they have on tap, it’s the new Two-5s craft brew. As far as I know, this is the only other place aside from the Placencia Beach Club that you can get Two-5s (remember I wrote about their debut here) on the entire peninsula.
So now that it is open, are you going to stop in and make your own assessment of the new Tipsy Tuna Sports Bar and Lounge this week? If you do, let me know what you think!
