A real Atlantic City Jitney... in Belize?!?
A cool surprise we discovered while wandering aimlessly around the residential streets: an actual Atlantic City Jitney!
Why is this Jitney here? I was seriously tempted to knock on the front door and demand an explanation. I didn’t of course. I like to think that the owners are New Jersey natives and they bought the old jitney on the cheap when the Jitney association switched from the iconic powder blue minibuses to the new “green” and white ones that run on compressed natural gas in 2010. Having bought the minibus for a song, they loaded it up with their belonging (you could fit a household worth of stuff in one of these things) and bugged outta town on an awe-inspiring road trip that ended in the little boho beach town of Placencia. Maybe they’re like the coolest retirees you never met. Next time we’re back in Placencia I’ll try to work up the nerve to ask what the deal is with the jitney. But now that I think about it… it’s not a bad idea to make the move without paying a freight company to ship your stuff down there. Then, if your jitney was still is good working order when you got it to Belize you might be able to sell it to a tour operator for taking tourists on excursions.
Other oddities around town… DIY houses!

And I loved the lagoon side of Placencia too
