Last week it was chickens, this week it was cheese. I was so pleased to be able to organize a bulk purchase of delicious cheddar from Western Dairies. The premise was simple: buy a pound give a pound free. Instead of buying retail for your family this week you could buy from my makeshift co-op and get twice as much- take your family’s cheese and donate the extra pound to our community food pantries. Win win.

Hot stuff coming through!

My friend, Cindy Flowers, and I have recently been collaborating on fundraising for the Peninsula Volunteer Fire Department. Specifically, to get Placencia (and the whole 18-mile peninsula really) a new fire truck. The one currently in use here is STRUGGLING, it’s literally cracking in half and can barely hold any water. Luckily for us, the department has a 6 X 4 vehicle and two independent pumps so that lines can be thrown into a water source (like the lagoon or sea) and hoses can be run that way….

5 Mile Run at the Crack of Dawn

Included in the MANY events and festivities for Lobsterfest Weekend in Placencia is the Edlin Leslie Sr. Battle Cancer 5 mile run/walk. The event benefits the BlissfulSage Foundation whose mission is to provide quality, dignified care for terminally ill patients in Southern Belize. The event unofficially kicks off the weekend of partying and indulging (although really the runners/walkers didn’t seem to be the crazy partier types).
