Wonderful Waterfall at Billy Barquedier National Park

Belize boasts loads of beautiful waterfalls.  Some are easy to reach, some are seldom seen because they’re so remote.  Some are quiet and gentle, some roar down their rock face, some change their appearance drastically from season to season.  I like a waterfall that requires a bit of effort to reach (so it feels like you’ve earned it when you get there) and has a natural pool at its base- and it should, of course, be rimmed with lush and pristine forest.  The waterfall at Billy Barquedier Park,…

Belize’s Longest Zipline Course- Bocawina Adventures

I’ve visited and written many times before about Mayflower Bocawina National Park in the Stann Creek District of Belize, easily reached from the popular tourist destinations of Placencia or Hopkins. The park is one of my favorites- tons of great trails and waterfalls, unexcavated ruins, and on-site activities like rappelling and ziplining. Read my previous posts on the best hike in Southern Belize or the waterfall rappelling. Our friends were itching for an adventure off the peninsula the other weekend so we zipped out to Bocawina for a…

Best hike in Southern Belize- Antelope Falls in Bocawina National Park

About an hour drive from Placencia Village, off the Southern Highway past Hopkins, is Mayflower Bocawina National Park.  Many visitors come to the park on adventure tours for Zip Lining or Waterfall Rappelling (remember I wrote about the rappelling here?) but if you’re looking for a nearly free, self-guided day trip I recommend one of the beautiful hikes here.  Don’t be afraid to get a little hot and dirty.  Pay the park fee ($10 bzd for foreign guests, $2 for local visitors), bring a picnic lunch and extra…

Waterfalls and Rappelling at Bocawina National Park

Girls just want to have fun… heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, muscle shaking fun. We have SUCH a great group of expats here in Placencia (that I’m so grateful for) that are so welcoming and kind and cool. The moms group organized a ladies only, kids-free adventure outing that was awesome! We all carpooled out to the beautiful and lush rainforest of Bocawina National Park for a day of hiking, swimming in natural pools, and the seriously insane waterfall rappelling. They also have a zip line course in the…
