Last night we decided to forego our usual Friday night on the beach and try something different. We’d seen a Facebook post that intrigued us: an all-you-can-eat Belizean Buffet. Hmm… my husband, Phil “I’m never full” Nagengast, loves a buffet and we all love the food at Wendy’s so we knew this was something we shouldn’t pass up. We rallied the crew and made reservations and I have to tell you- it did NOT disappoint! Oh man you guys, I really hope this becomes a regular event. Whether you just love Belizean food and want to gorge yourself (like we all did) or you’re completely new to the cuisine and want to sample all the best bits: Wendy’s Belizean Buffet fits the ticket. It was so good!
Wendy’s Creole Restaurant & Bar is an enduring Placencia classic. They just celebrated the 20th anniversary and the big pink building is iconic in this village. When my friends visited last September they returned to Wendy’s for fluffy fry jacks and Belizean breakfast day after day. My mom was head over heels for the lobster dinner here and even Mitch has been know to eat Ms Wendy’s stewed chicken (and that kid doesn’t eat ANYTHING). If you have a few days in Placencia then Wendy’s should be on your must-eat list for at least one meal.

The Belizean Buffet had all the classic Creole heavy hitters: coconut rice and beans, stew beans and coconut rice, conch fritters, shrimp ceviche, stew chicken, garnaches, coleslaw, escabeche, local veggies, whole grilled snapper, and that excellent stewed chicken. My stand out favorites were the stewed beef (someone at our table said it was the best beef they can remember eating in Belize), the fish fillet that had been steamed in banana leaf, the potato salad (hers is just SO tasty!), and the seafood Creole stew that Wendy’s does so well.

We really enjoyed this for a change of pace; the novelty of the buffet and that everything was done so well. Vacationers would love this as a pick and choose introduction to Belizean fare. Follow Wendy’s Facebook page for daily special and keep an eye peeled for the next buffet- you’re going to want to go!
